Great Blogs to Check Out

I chose Communications Overtone, The Harte of Marketing, and Seth’s Blog as the three sites to write about for my new blog entry. The reason why I picked these to write about is because I found them the most interesting graphically and they seemed the easiest to navigate. The other blogs I reviewed were Ogilvy PR and Pat Coyle’s Blog. These blogs were a little distracting in my opinion and I didn’t like the format or how they were overall design of them.

As for the blogs I chose to review and write about, I though all three of them made it easy to read and follow understand what they are about. One content piece that really interested me was from Communications Overtone blog and it was about ROI of Social Media. I found this interesting because it’s always good to know how much awareness or in this case profit earned from the amount of time spent on social media campaigns. I didn’t like one blog because an article in it focused on a product used instead of an actual story.

The information I read on these three blogs were valuable to me. They all gave me insight on different marketing perspectives and techniques to use in the future as well as personally to watch out for certain products. As for everyone else, I believe these blogs are valuable because they give insight in the marketing profession. One group in particular that would benefit would be college graduate who are looking to gain an edge in the workforce.

The author of Communications Overtone is Kami Huyse and her writing gives off a vibe that she is helping other people learn as they read her blog. The author of The Harte of Marketing is Beth Harte. My impression of her is that she is very smart. Her blogs are well-organized and they are great sources of information. And the author of Seth’s Blog is Seth Godin. My impression of him is that he is a laid back guy. I get that feeling because his blog is easy to read and he spends lots of time writing posts.

As for visiting these blogs again, I believe I may in future, however I’m not certain if I will for sure. This is mainly due to how I most likely will forget the blog names and writers for them. But, if I do happen to remember them, I may go visit their posts just to gain additional information.

Sincerely,

Am I a Twitterer or a Tweeter?

I’ve had Twitter for an entire year now, but have barely used it. Why, well because I didn’t know what to do with it because I had just created my account to follow celebrities and professional athletes that I enjoyed and were funny. I thought Twitter was all about talking to people, such like Facebook or any other social media. As I’ve figured out, my perception was a bit incorrect.

Fast forward to today, and I’m checking it as much as I would my e-mail because now I see how great it is to use. I like it so much because now I see it as a technique to generate news and to gather news from other people who tweet. I also like that people who you interact with on Twitter respond to you such like an email, except that it’s much quicker and a shorter response. However, one thing I don’t enjoy about it is that sometimes you can’t understand what people are saying because you can only have 140 characters.
Now, I see Twitter as great use of social media for everyone and any kind of organization. I enjoy it for my personal use because it allows me to frame the message or news in the way I want it. I believe it’s good for others like me because it allows them to shape they want to receive information or who they want to follow. As for professionally, if you look how Fortune 500 companies utilize it, so it’s evident that Twitter is an effective tool. I have used it professionally as well as personally recently and it is great because it allows you to distribute information out to key publics quickly and costly.

One of my favorite Twitterers that has impressed me is Ken Gordon and his username is kengordonosu. He tweets multiple times throughout the day and he gives valuable information that I like to see. One that I’m interested in seeing everyday is nbc4i because they tweet about what they are currently reporting so I can use this to know what’s going on in Columbus and they provide the most information to their followers.
One common difference I’ve seen with the media vs. businesses vs. individuals is that the media uses this just like a breaking story. Whereas, a business will tweet stuff pertaining to their interest and individuals use it to connect with friends or tweet about what is going on in their personal lives.

Throughout my Twitter experience, I’ve learned a lot. I understand how to communicate with fellow twitterers and how to use a hash tag. It’s a great communication device and I understand why it’s becoming so popular in the professional and personal lives of so many people.

For a recommendation on who to follow, I recommend Ken Gordon, Bill Simmons (sportsguy32), and myself (lanceosu). I recommend these because Gordon tweets valid information about OSU football because he is the football beat writer for The Columbus Dispatch and he has the entire inside knowledge. As for Simmons, he is a sports writer for ESPN and has the best personality of anyone on that network. He has great charisma and a funny individual. As for myself, I just want people to follow me and I’ll hopefully give you a good joke.
For me, the future looks bright with lots of Tweets ahead of me. I plan on using it for both a personal and professional standpoint from here to wherever it takes me into the future.
